Meet Kellen Story
The Upper Quad Hall Director
Undergraduate degree: Elementary Education - Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI
Graduate degree: Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education - Ball State University, Muncie, IN
Why did you become a hall director?
As an undergrad, I made it my goal to get involved as possible. I was an RA, an Orientation Leader, a Founding Father of a fraternity, a member of the Cycling Team, and many more – I got crazy with the involvement. When I was an RA, my director told me about what it takes to become a hall director, and I became immediately enthused about the idea. After I finished my student teaching with third graders, which I loved, I decided to pursue Higher Education. I love to work with both children and college students – two completely different demographics, but eerily similar in some instances. I'm very happy about being a director!
Why did you choose UNH?
I’ve spent my entire life in the Midwest and was looking for a change – and after visiting the campus and meeting the directors at UNH, I knew immediately that this was a place where I’d fit in. Being able to be myself in my job is truly rewarding. I can’t imagine being cooped up in an office all day long or being tied down to a cubicle. I’m fortunate to have found a school that promotes my strengths.
Advice for students...
Most of your learning will come outside of the classroom – it’s up to you whether or not it’s positive or negative. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. A lot of my most beneficial life moments have come from making mistakes in college (most of which involved a lack of studying for important tests).
