Meet Melissa Silva
The Sawyer Hall Director

Why did you become a hall director?
The years spent residing on a college campus are very important for growth and development. Within the classroom learning is tailored, focused and guided. Beyond the classroom, the learning process still continues. I am a Hall Director because learning is a never ending process and it occurs in every interaction/situation. Within the residence halls students learn about themselves and others; they learn life skills and social skills; they learn to build and maintain relationships to last a lifetime. Being Hall Director, I help in facilitating that growth and development, which classroom settings overlook. I love seeing that growth within students. It is what keeps me going.

Why did you choose UNH?
UNH blew me away on my first interview. I knew that I could learn a great deal from the CORE staff, be given the opportunity to create new initiatives, and above all... I love how student centered the department is.

Advice for students…
Be active members in your community! Branch out- try new things, meet people different from you, explore your many options! Be reflective and thoughtful about everything you do or don't do in life!... Your choices show your character. Always remember that.
